...Sub-Zero, being pursued by the Lin Kuei for his betrayal through all this time, appeared again. His purpose was to asist Earthrealm warriors in their battle against the mighty Shinnok. Lin Kuei clan suffered in that times - its warriors rufused to transform into cyborgs one after another, and those of them who desired it - only wished to cover their physical weaknesses with cybernetics. That was the reason for the Lin Kuei to have Sub-Zero's renegade head as a symbol to arise their warriors' courage. To capture a traitor they sent the most loyal assassin and the most advanced cyborg - Sektor. However, after furious battles with countless Outworld invasion squads in the past, Sektor's blind loyality to his clan faltered, and his own point of opinion appeared. Watching his clan suffering, Sektor came to realise that current clan orders and rules are unable to gather the ninjas together. So, his way to track Sub-Zero suddenly ended by returning to his clan's headquarters and thus disobeying his orders. Shortly thereafter, Sektor murdered the Grandmaster who ruled for a time long enough. Instead of taking the title for himself, Sektor pronounced that only a worthy ninja warrior - no matter from which group - will rule the newly reborn clan. Sub-Zero was the first to be invited to a tournament, and was promised to face Sektor in battle personally.

A riot started in ninja clans' politics due of each of them desired to attach formerly powerful Lin Kuei to itself. Ninja warriors gathered to a tournament with different goals, but little did they intent to fight with honor.
